Glass Artists Portfolio

For over three decades, our glass gallery has promoted contemporary glass art. Discover the international glass artists featured in our portfolio.

The Glasgalerie Stölting was founded by Tom Stölting in Hamburg’s HafenCity to continue the internationally renowned glass gallery of his mother, Eliška Stölting, into the next generation. In 1988, she had opened the world’s first gallery specializing in contemporary Czech glass art. The gallery focuses on glass sculptures by artists who belong to the international elite of the glass scene and are represented in major museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London or the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. Thanks to decades of contacts and close friendships with the artists, valuable internal knowledge was passed down and preserved by the Prague-born son. The gallerist continues the family business’s philosophy of promoting glass as a medium in contemporary art and attracting new collectors to this remarkable genre.

Aleš Vašíček

Born 1947, passed away 2025 in the Czech Republic
Aleš Vašíček began with purely minimalist glass objects, where simple forms were precisely connected. After exploring the limits of perfectly balanced compositions, he gradually relaxed his approach, combining geometric forms with complex structures. The inner space of his objects is as important as the outer, and light permeability plays a significant role. Vašíček masterfully manipulates light, shadow, and reflection, achieving exact proportions between lines, intersecting straight lines and curves, irregular forms, structures, and imprints of reality. His works explore perspectives through objects, color changes, spatial definitions, and the angles of reflected rays.

Fine Art Glass Sculpture - Andrej Jakab

Andrej Jakab

Born 1950 in the Slovak Republic
Andrej Jakab’s glass is highly distinctive among artists of all generations, including internationally. His work emphasizes abstraction and geometric principles, presenting and defining geometric shapes and volumes both internally and externally. It features sharp and rounded edges, faceting, surface planes, and a combination of clear and colored glass. The silent clarity of his works reflects light, mirrors, and resonates with the crystal tones of its visual “music.”

Fine Art Glass Sculpture - Andrej Jančovič

Andrej Jančovič

Born 1986 in the Slovak Republic
Jančovič primarily employs geometric forms, often derived from squares or cube volumes. He transforms the interior space through segmentation, multiplication, or division. By combining optical glass with colored glass, he creates dynamic optical effects within fixed geometric forms, changing depending on the observer’s viewpoint. The contrast between colorless optical glass and colored glass is a recurring element in his later works.

Fine Art Glass Sculpture - Bohumil Eliáš Jr.

Bohumil Eliáš Jr.

Born 1980 in the Czech Republic
The artist’s training as a classical sculptor is evident in his work. He treats glass as an equal sculptural material, combining it with other materials such as bronze, metal, or stone, leveraging the transparency and reflective qualities of glass for artistic expression. Bohumil Eliáš Jr. also incorporates natural materials into his objects, making his work highly varied and rich.

Eva Vlčková

Born 1966 in the Czech Republic
In her molten glass objects, Eva Vlčková combines austere architectural forms with smooth, rounded shapes, creating a special tension. The translucent reflections softly shining through the surfaces further shape the interiors of the objects. In this way, the artist softens the severe architecture, giving her works gentle, feminine contours.

Ilja Bílek

Born 1948 in the Czech Republic
The evident artistic expression and perfectly executed composition form the basis of Ilja Bílek’s work. His technically complex objects, composed of precisely cut and glued parts, fully exploit the capabilities of glass — its transparency and reflective properties. Bílek enjoys contrasts, combining opaque with transparent glass and flat with three-dimensional forms, ultimately creating well-balanced glass sculptures.

Jan Exnar

Born 1951 in the Czech Republic
Like rugged landscapes, Jan Exnar’s glass sculptures with jagged edges and corners evoke a sense of rawness. They combine strict forms with brilliant simplicity and emit a mystical glow in vibrant colors. Exnar enjoys experimenting with shapes and colors in his sculptures. Countless bubbles seem to float within his works like celestial bodies in cosmic space, symbolizing the infinity of the universe. The transparency of glass, much like gazing at the night sky, allows thoughts to flow freely. “From our perspective, glass may appear solid and immovable,” Jan Exnar asserts, “but the cosmic space is not static. The universe is in motion, expanding, contracting, and constantly flowing, just like glass.”

Fine Art Glass Sculpture - Jan Fišar

Jan Fišar

Born 1933 and deceased 2010 in the Czech Republic
Unlike most other Czech glass artists, Jan Fišar completed a classical sculptural education, which remains evident in his glass works. Some of his objects consist of complex compositions of slumped, sunken, and cut hollow glass, a technique unique in the world. The seemingly spontaneous design of his “baroque” glass sculptures captivates through the immediacy of expression and the originality of their dynamics. Through his work, he expressed philosophical messages while simultaneously addressing unique technological challenges.

Jaroslav Wasserbauer

Born 1962 in the Czech Republic
Jaroslav Wasserbauer belongs to the younger generation of Czech glass artists. Rooted in the traditional school of Czech studio glass art, he focuses on glass melting techniques and clearly structured designs with geometric forms strongly influenced by architecture. Wasserbauer is a progressive traditionalist: forward-looking and constantly exploring new ideas without losing sight of the traditional roots of Czech glass art. He enjoys playing with transparency and the effects of light and shadow in his works, and he considers his art primarily as manual craftsmanship. According to him, perseverance is indispensable for an artist: only through it can a creative idea fully manifest in an individual work over time.

Jiří Karel

Born 1952 in the Czech Republic
Jiří Karel’s work focuses on the use of floated optical glass slabs, hot-welded into compact blocks which he sculpts and meticulously polishes to complete the composition. He often incorporates firing materials, such as pigments and metal oxides, onto the glass plates to create graphic patterns inside and outside his sculptures. These colors are first heated and then fused into the compact block. His sculptures subtly play with light, reflection, and the transparency of the material’s thickness.
